The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico I Castei Campo Casalin offers a robust and dense expression from one of the best vintages in the Veneto in recent memory. The wine opens to brooding dark fruit and robust flavors of black fruit, dried figs, berries, spice and barbecue smoke. Like the other Valpolicella wines from Michele Castellani, the field blend here is 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, and the grapes see three months of dehydration in a specially ventilated room. After fermentation is complete, the aging process takes the wine through both barrique and botte grande for two years. The wine is almost dry on the finish, and the alcohol is contained at 15.5%. Open it with a rosemary-roasted tenderloin and zucchini. Some 15,000 bottles were produced.
