The 2008 Osmin employs the same grape varieties as the Ardiles with the addition of Merlot, but sourced solely from 80- to 110-year-old vines. It has a very well-defined, clean, crisp bouquet that momentarily transports you to the place it was born. You could smell those wild Priorat herbs in the wine! The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. This is a harmonious Priorat with superb minerality and complexity towards the understated, cerebral finish, with subtle notes of rosemary and thyme lingering. A well-crafted Priorat red. Drink 2014-2025. Two superb 2008s were tasted from Merum Priorati, whose vineyards are located close to Porrera. It is a collaboration between oenologist Don Lewis and Narelle King, and according to their website, the objective is to create “a special wine, with something different.” They are doing just that. The 2007 Osmin is a blend of 35% Garnacha, 30% Carinena balanced by Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot aged in new French oak barrels. It is very aromatic and fragrant, with a developed bouquet mixing Mediterranean herbs, ripe cherries, spices and peat aromas. The palate has some grainy tannins and feels a little heavier than the 2007 Ardiles with a slightly drying finish that makes you wonder if the fruit will overcome the oak. It is a good Priorat to enjoy with powerful dishes, though. Drink now-2017. Merum Priorati is owned by Pere Ventura from Penedes. I found the wines quite reliable and ready to drink. No known American importer.

The 2006 Osmin was aged entirely in new oak. The Garnacha and Carinena grapes were sourced from vines ranging in age from 80 to 100 years. Purple/black in color, it delivers a superb perfume of mineral, violets, truffle, black cherry, and blueberry. Sweet and ripe on the palate, it is denser and richer as well as more structured than the Ardiles bottling. Give it 4-6 years to blossom and drink it through 2026.
