The 2008 Osmin employs the same grape varieties as the Ardiles with the addition of Merlot, but sourced solely from 80- to 110-year-old vines. It has a very well-defined, clean, crisp bouquet that momentarily transports you to the place it was born. You could smell those wild Priorat herbs in the wine! The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. This is a harmonious Priorat with superb minerality and complexity towards the understated, cerebral finish, with subtle notes of rosemary and thyme lingering. A well-crafted Priorat red. Drink 2014-2025.
Two superb 2008s were tasted from Merum Priorati, whose vineyards are located close to Porrera. It is a collaboration between oenologist Don Lewis and Narelle King, and according to their website, the objective is to create “a special wine, with something different.” They are doing just that. There are five vineyards that are treated separately until blending, upon which there is a selection of the best barrels.
