The 2015 Barbaresco Serragrilli presents dark and tarry fruit with dried cassis and blackberry at the front. This expression shows very dry tannins that take away from some of the fruit succulence that this warm vintage normally delivers. This edition of Barbaresco Serragrilli is better suited to near-term consumption.

Generous and ripe, the 2014 Barbaresco Serragrilli has enjoyed the benefit of a late harvest after a warm and dry month of September. The earlier part of the summer was very cool however. Many vintners took the risk in 2014 and waited for fruit to continue its ripening longer than usual. Nebbiolo tends to show less color intensity and integrity in warm vintages, but 2014 displays beautifully dark saturation instead. The tannins are ample and round and the wine shows dark fruit aromas of black cherry and crème de cassis. The tail end of the wine's flavor profile shows a touch of mineral saltiness. This goes a long way to reset and refresh the palate.

Compared to the base Barbaresco, the 2013 Barbaresco Serragrilli (from the Neive township) shows a darker personality with more heft and muscle at the back. Dense cherry and blackberry are followed by spice, tar and leather. The wine also offers a good sense of structure and textural richness. The finish is polished and elegant.
