Made without any destemming this year, the 2019 Crozes Hermitage boasts intricate floral and herbal accents set against a backdrop of redcurrants and ripe cherries. Medium to full-bodied, this complex wine from 60-year-old vines in Larnage is silky and long, just a gorgeous, elegant effort.

I don't know if it's just the effect of the vintage or a renewed commitment to his Crozes, but Sorrel's 2018 Crozes Hermitage is the best I've ever tasted at this address. Like all the reds this year, it was fermented as whole clusters, and so while there's a slight stemmy component, there's plenty of ripe black cherries and raspberries for balance. Full-bodied and silky, it shows lovely texture, complexity and length.

A bit lighter than the 2018, the 2017 Crozes Hermitage features ripe cherries and peppery nuances. Medium-bodied, with some gently dusty tannins, it's a quaffable year, meant to be consumed young—anytime over the next 5-6 years.

The 2016 Crozes Hermitage was entirely destemmed. This medium-bodied effort shows wonderful purity to its cherry flavors and a supple, appealing mouthfeel.
