The red wines include what may be the finest Crozes-Hermitage Sorrel has made. The 2009 Crozes-Hermitage (which was bottled shortly before my visit) is atypically big. Its dense purple color is followed by copious aromas of licorice, pepper, crushed rocks and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, fresh and well-endowed, it comes from Sorrel’s vineyard in one of the most favored sectors of Crozes-Hermitage, the hillsides of Larnage. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.
