The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois is another highpoint of the range, delivering aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, almonds and pear. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a fleshy core of fruit girdled by tangy acids, it concludes with a chalky finish.

Aromas of green apple, waxy citrus rind, white flowers and clear honey introduce the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois, a medium to full-bodied, tensile and incisive wine that's elegant and fragrant, concluding with a saline finish. From a parcel of old vines that Leroux purchased some years ago, this is always a fine cuvée.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois comes from vines planted in 1930. It has a crisp and focused bouquet with fine delineation and focus. The mineralité comes through in accomplished fashion here. The palate is well balanced with great purity and tension, lightly honeyed in texture and with a very detailed finish with touches of spice lingering on the aftertaste. I can see why Leroux was so excited about this new addition to his range.

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois, the maiden vintage from 0.5-hectares shared between red and white that Leroux acquired in 2013, has a clean and precise bouquet, tightly wound at first and then opening with touches of orange rind. The palate is lively on the entry, just a touch of sour lemon before it segues into a taut, malic, cool finish. This marks a commendable debut, though I suspect there is even better to come.
