The dark ruby-colored 1998 Merlot Cobblers Hill reveals blackberries and cassis in its aromatics. This medium-bodied wine has good depth and concentration to its black fruit and asphalt-flavored personality. It is well-structured, extracted, and beautifully made (even considering the touch of alcohol discernible in the finish). Projected maturity: now-2005. Note: This winery is known in South Africa and in Europe as Jordan. They have adopted the name Jardin for the US market label in deference to the Jordan Winery of California. Importer: Vinnovative Imports, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 489-9463.
