The 2018 Syrah Thompson Vineyard is medium ruby-purple in color with aromas of cassis, dried herbs, licorice and earth, plus wafts of baking spice. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, juicy and approachable, with fruit-driven character and sweet spices lingering on the finish.

Medium to deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2016 Syrah Thompson Vineyard has a very pretty, broody nose of lilac and violet with sliced blueberries, plum, chocolate-covered cherries, turned earth, charcuterie and olive. Full-bodied, it packs in the nuanced black and blue fruits, with firm, chewy tannins and good freshness, finishing long. Yum!

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Syrah Thompson Vineyard has fragrant baked plums, crème de cassis and dusty earth notes with chocolate box, sandalwood, Indian spices and sautéed herbs nuances. Full-bodied, plush and voluptuously fruited, it gives plenty of black fruit and spice layers in the mouth and great length.

The 2013 Syrah Thompson Vineyard offers lots of peppery nuances to go with more olive, mineral, herbs and dark fruits. This medium to full-bodied Syrah has the classic purity of fruit that’s present in all of Jaffurs' wines to go with lively acidity, good mid-palate concentration and a great finish. Aged 18 months in 30% new French oak, drink this beautiful wine over the coming 7-8 years.

I always get a little gaminess from the Thompson Vineyard and the 2012 Syrah Thompson Vineyard delivers plenty of it with its bacon fat, black cherry, violets and spring flower-laced bouquet. Vibrant, tight and focused, with bright acidity that's nicely balanced by solid depth of fruit, it will be better this time next year and drink nicely through 2024. Like the other single vineyards, it was completely destemmed and aged 22 months in 25% new French oak.
