Jaffurs’ wines continue to go from strength to strength, and recent vintages have been the finest I have yet tasted from this producer. The full-bodied 2004 Syrah Thompson Vineyard demonstrates Syrah’s floral, blackberry, smoky character, more acidity than any of its siblings, and comes across as more elegant and restrained with additional minerality. It will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring, and should keep for 12 or more.
