The 2009 ARGILOS “SOUTHERN SLOPES” is a Nemea, i.e., Agiorgitiko. Softly textured and modestly concentrated, with an oaky overlay, it seems gentle and calm on opening, but it actually has some significant bursts of tannins and acidity lurking underneath. This is pleasing and tasty, mingling red fruit notes, a slight tartness and sweet oak, while having enough structure to be interesting. Give this 6-12 months to settle down. Drink now-2016. The 2007 ARGILOS SOUTHERN SLOPES is a bit eccentric, with a sour plum note on the finish. It is all Agiorgitiko, but lacks the appealing, fresh and clean cherry notes that the grape always has at its best. The structure and mid-palate are modest. The 2005 ARGILOS SOUTHERN SLOPES is gamey on the nose, most of the fruity nuances of the Agiorgitiko (it is all Agiorgitiko) obscured. It does have a sunny demeanor, decent structure for its price range and some grip on the finish. It has a fair bit of charm if you don’t mind the gamey notes.
