The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts is also showing very well, offering up aromas of sweet Asian spices, rose petal, plums, cassis and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with good depth and dimension, vibrant fruit and a sapid, expansive finish.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts showed beautifully, offering up a lovely bouquet of dark, plummy fruit complemented by nuances of incense, Asian spices and smoked duck. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and lavish, with a rich but compellingly sapid core of fruit, juicy acids and largely concealed satiny structuring tannins.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a tightly wound bouquet with notes of blackberry, briary and redcurrant jus interwoven with superb mineralité. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry: candied orange peel infusing the vivid red berry fruit with a gentle, but insistent grip on the finish. Whilst not at the level of the 2015, this is an excellent Les Beaux Monts with long ageing potential.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a rather leafy bouquet, perhaps some stem addition here, nicely defined with bay leaf and thyme. It seems to grow in stature in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate acidity but it has clearly shut down towards the finish and feels static. There is a very impressive wine here, however it will need 4-5 years before it entertains the idea of drinkability. Tasted September 2016.
