The flagship cuvée is the 100% Grenache 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Saint Georges, which comes from very old vines planted all in the rolled stone soils of which the appellation is so known. I don’t see a huge gap in quality between this cuvée and the base cuvée at the moment, but I’m sure they will separate themselves more with time in barrel. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, polished and elegant, with lots of cassis, blackberries, pepper and licorice, it too will have at least 10-15 years of longevity.

A step up over the classic cuvee, there’s a scant 100 cases of the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape St Georges. Made from 100% barrel aged Grenache from the Saint Georges lieu-dit (this is on the eastern edge of the appellation, near the village of Courthezon), it offers impressive notes of cassis, licorice, crushed violets and toasted bread. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant Chateauneuf that has high quality tannin, solid mid-palate depth and a terrific finish. It shows the vintage beautifully and will certainly be an outstanding wine.

The 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape St Georges is a sensational wine, especially in the vintage. Made from 100% Grenache that spent 18 months in barrel, it offers full-bodied richness and depth, as well as impressive notes of cassis, crushed flower, asphalt and assorted wild flower-like characteristics. Possessing good acidity and a pure, elegant, layered style, it can be enjoyed today or cellared for 7-8 years.
