Also a big, ripe effort, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Saint Georges (100% Grenache aged 18 months in barrel) exhibits perfumed aromas of tobacco leaf, dried herbs, underbrush and spice to go with full-bodied richness, savory tannin and ample length. It’s certainly a success in the vintage and is a gorgeous Chateauneuf to drink over the coming decade. Drink now-2023.
This high-quality estate is run by Coralie Goumarre and covers roughly 120 acres in Cotes du Rhones and a tiny 4 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape. Located mostly in the northeastern part of the appellation, she produces two red Chateauneufs and one white. In addition to the 2011s and 2012 reviewed here (which are well worth seeking out), don’t miss her 2010s!
