The only white tasted, and a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is stunning. Loaded with mulled orchard fruit, citrus blossom, custard and salty minerality, it is medium-bodied, textured and has great, yet integrated acidity. I’m a fan and it should drink nicely for 2-3 years. Drink now-2016.
This high-quality estate is run by Coralie Goumarre and covers roughly 120 acres in Cotes du Rhones and a tiny 4 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape. Located mostly in the northeastern part of the appellation, she produces two red Chateauneufs and one white. In addition to the 2011s and 2012 reviewed here (which are well worth seeking out), don’t miss her 2010s!
