This wine is outstanding. The 1997 St.-Joseph (13% natural alcohol; produced from yields of 32 hectoliters per hectare, and no new oak) is a ripe, dense purple-colored wine with abundant quantities of jammy black fruits, a seductive, lush, concentrated palate, admirable fruit purity, and plenty of glycerin and layers of flavor. The wine is aged only in demi-muids. Like all of Montez's reds, it is bottled unfiltered. It can be drunk now and over the next decade.
