Marked by scents of clove, pepper and allspice, the 2018 Crozes Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins delivers ample spice-driven complexity layered over a base of cherry fruit. It's medium-bodied and silky, with deftly managed tannins that leave an impression of soft dustiness on the savory, olive-tinged finish.

Looking even better than it did last year, the 2017 Crozes Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins boasts layers of dreamy black cherries and red-skinned plums. Medium to full-bodied, it's creamy textured and lush on the mid-palate, turning silky and adding dried-spice notes on the long, easy-drinking finish. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

I had higher hopes for the 2016 Crozes Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins, but it appears to have closed down a bit and become less expressive. Espresso and black olive notes now seem more somber than last year, with meaty, earthy notes. It's medium to full-bodied, with some firm tannins on the finish.
