Notions of root vegetables, earth, old saddle leather, cherry fruit, herbs, and pepper emerge from this rustic 1999 that tastes like a Spanish Cotes du Rhone. Port-like prune characteristics also make an appearance as the wine sits in the glass. With good size, weight, and depth, it comes across as artisinal. Nevertheless, there is a rustic frankness to this full-bodied, concentrated, mouthfilling offering. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
