This Riserva shows slow and soothing momentum that washes over the palate with delicate nuances of wild cherry, fresh plum and blue violet. The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautiful wine that gains in intensity and purity as the wine opens in the glass. The bouquet is well stitched together with red fruit tones the segue to spice, leather and pressed rose. The wine is lean and short in the mouth but it does end with bright acidity that is a trademark of Sangiovese.

The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is less impressive compared to recent past vintages (such as 2007, 2004 and 2001) There's a green note of bramble or rosemary oil that appears on the heels of red berry fruit and cassis. The maturity of the fruit feels uneven. The 2011 heat has also contributed to a note of tight astringency that characterizes the finish.
