The Brancaia 2018 Tre is a blend of mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These three grapes (harvested from three vineyard sites in Castellina, Radda and on the Tuscan Coast) deliver freshness, dark fruity softness and solid structure in equal measure. This is a streamlined wine with an accessible and easy personality that would work just fine alongside a wood-oven pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and black olives.

A blend of mostly Sangiovese (80%) with smaller parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Tre gives an all-Tuscan voice to all three of those grapes. That voice speaks mainly of the sunshine and heat that washed over this region during this vintage. This is a dark and nicely concentrated entry-level wine with dark plum, dried blackberry and Morello cherry. The wine is sweet, soft and just a touch jammy in the mouth. It's a great one for sausage and peppers. Some 200,000 bottles were made and the price is right.

The 2016 Tre is 80% Sangiovese with 10% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The combination of those three grapes makes for a well-priced entry-level Tuscan red that would pair nicely with pasta or spicy sausage pizza. This is a soft and simple mid-weight wine with a bright bouquet that is colored with vibrant tones of dark fruit, spice and grilled herb. The quality of the fruit in this classic vintage is what pushes this value wine up to an exciting 90-point threshold. Bottle production is 500,000 units strong.

Made with 80% Sangiovese and smaller parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Tre presents a ripe bouquet with cherry fruit and cassis. Those bright red berry flavors segue to light shadings of spice, leather and blue flower. The fruit feels soft and round in this sunny vintage. This is an easy wine in terms of mouthfeel with medium weight and a fresh finale.

Entry level wines don't get better than this. The well-priced 2014 Tre is especially attractive and bright in this vintage. Made with 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Tre shows lots of personality and moxie. The fruit is confident, crisp and bright. Aging in oak and concrete give the wine an edgy and mineral-driven feel.
