Even though it's still a bit oaky, which is worrying at age seven, the 2008 Rompesedas shows nice berry fruit and a fine, polished texture with supple flavors. This is produced in the style of yesteryear, with 18 months in new oak, despite which the fruit is still there. This wine offers a red for fans of the style that is nicely defined and has developed interesting balsamic and minty aromas. 77,800 bottles.

The 2007 Rompesedas comes from El Pego from their 74.5-hectares of vines, the oldest of which are 100 years of age. The 2007 was picked between October 2 and 16 and underwent a six-day carbonic maceration with two daily punch downs before being aged in 20% Hungarian, 60% French and 20% American oak. It offers a ripe bouquet of dark cherries, yellow plum, orange blossom and a touch of Indian ink that is nicely defined. The palate is fleshy and ripe with copious sweet dark cherry fruit laced with marmalade and a touch of honey. It offers a rich, sweet, ravishing finish that is heady and powerful. The 2006 Rompesedas was aged in new oak for 18 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it proffers a superb aromatic array of slate, mineral, tar, espresso, violets, incense, and blackberry. Surprisingly elegant despite its obvious power, this savory effort should gracefully evolve for another 5-7 years and easily achieve its 20th birthday in full form.
