The elegant, medium-bodied, stylish 1999 Hermitage, from one of that appellation's least favored sectors, exhibits scents of minerals mixed with red and black currants. It lacks the substance and majesty of the appellation's top wines. It possesses admirable character, but less concentration than the Crozes-Hermitage La Guiraude as well as the cuvee classique. Graillot's has done a fine job with his 1998 Hermitage, as he did pigeage and completely destemmed the fruit. It offers a dense purple color, plenty of black fruit character, and a sweet mid-palate and length. The tannin is supple, and the wine is elegant yet rich.
