This is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Approximately two-thirds of the fruit for this vintage came from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard, with the other third coming from Morlet’s new “Coeur de Vallee” vineyard in Oakville—just across the road from To Kalon. Very deep purple-black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee prances out of the glass with a pretty perfume of lavender, chocolate-covered cherries and garrigue over a core of blackcurrant cordial, plum preserves and unsmoked cigars with a waft of dried mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has an impressive fine-grained texture with background freshness supporting the intense black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. 245 cases were made.
