The 2001 Ludi is Cabernet and Merlot added to Montepulciano, but they were clearly worked with skill and perceptiveness in this vintage. A blackish ruby, its potent nose of roasted fruit, tar, Mediterranean herbs, and charred oak is followed by a very rich and concentrated palate, dense with closely-knit but velvety tannins, almost chewy in its depth and consistence, but sweet, balanced, and very long.
