My efforts to become acquainted the Latour's 1997 Montrachet's aromatics were unsuccessful as it was completely closed. With its elegant, expansive, and medium-to-full-bodied personality it offers superbly focused layers of minerals, sweet nuts, white flowers, as well as spiced pears. A highly refined and well-crafted wine, it is marvelously ample, focused, concentrated and complex. A prodigious 1997, it combines the vintage's richness with structure, outstanding balance, and an impressively long and detailed finish. Projected maturity: 2002-2009+.
Other 1997s tasted: Chassagne-Montrachet (86-87), Meursault (86-87), Meursault Chateau de Blagny (86-87+), Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne (87-89), Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts (87-89), Santenay (86-87).
Louis Latour is represented by a different importer in each state.
