I had the chance to taste one magnum of their first-ever vintage and first-ever wine, the 1999 Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles. The wine is approximately half Cari?ena and half Garnacha, mostly from their Salanques vineyard, as they were slowly pulling the family vineyards from the cooperative. The wine, from an unheralded vintage, is holding up very well—extremely well for the expectation—with a fully developed nose full of Mediterranean herbs, a touch of paprika and something earthy, with a rustic touch. The palate felt polished, with resolved tannins and good balance. I think this can still hold for a few more years, and it's a lot better than anyone expected. Perhaps the magnums have fared better than the regular bottles...
