The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino Donna Olga is named for Olga Peluso, who runs the property for her family. Dark garnet in tone, full, fresh, ample, and sweet in aroma, dense and solid in flavor, it possesses attractive tarry and chocolatey notes in addition to a full and complete finish. It promises to drink well for a dozen years to come. This wine is superior to the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, hard and angular, and the 1998 Brunello Pietranera, with a stewed fruit nose and volatile acidity.
An estate of significant size with vineyards in various parts of the zone, the core block is located on hillsides above the holdings of Gianfranco Soldera and Angelo Gaja, not exactly a shabby neighborhood. There have been ups and downs over the years, but there seems to be a bit more ambition recently.
