The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Molino del Piano is what Italian might call a piacione or "immediately likable" wine. The bouquet is soft, approachable and seductive thanks to its generous offerings of cherry Maraschino and melted chocolate. The style won't appeal to Brunello purists, but it will taste delicious to those who are open to an increasingly international style. Dark, inky concentration is backed by ripe tannins and loads of barbecue spice and mesquite. It should be applauded for it general richness and length. Drink: 2016-2022.
