The 1997 Cote Rotie Belle Helene is backward rather than seductive and open-knit. It exhibits a deep ruby color with purple nuances, and sweet toasty new oak aromas intertwined with jammy kirsch and creme de cassis. With airing black olive scents also emerge in this complex, nicely nuanced, medium to full-bodied effort. The finish possesses sweet fruit. While the 1997 is low in acidity, it has a tannic grip. It requires a degree of patience, but it is a glorious Cote Rotie. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2017.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
