The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape displays an easy, fruit-forward style, but this is no simple wine. As seductive as it is, it displays plenty of complex aromatics, attractive kirsch liqueur notes with lavender, spice box, and a hint of meaty Provencal herbs in its composition. This wine should be drunk over the next 6-7 years. Two strong offerings from this estate, which has long been represented in the United States, although until recently the wines were too blatantly mainstream and commercial. Nicely perfumed with scents of blackberries and violets, the 2006 from Nalys is full-bodied and firmly tannic, but not particularly plush or rich. It is complex, featuring intriguing hints of grilled or cured meats and black cherries in addition to its floral notes.——J.C.(12/15/2009)—— 87
