I am convinced that Schoffit's 1992 Tokay Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St.-Theobald will turn out to be extraordinary. However, Tokay requires 7-8 years of bottle age to reveal its bouquet. Although this example is closed, the wine resembles a cavalry charge, roaring across the palate with huge, massive, botrytised flavors buttressed by acidity. This wine should be served with dishes such as sauteed foie gras or by itself.Bernard Schoffit, whose cellars are in the southeast sector of the beautiful town of Colmar, is now at the pinnacle of Alsatian winemakers committed to making wines of the highest quality. His wines, which offer extraordinary elegance combined with remarkable power and concentration, are all highly recommended. While it is tempting to measure a winemaker's genius by superb vintages such as 1989 and 1990, it is a vintage such as 1992 that reveal who's who in winemaking. Bernard Schoffit has proven that he deserved to be compared to Alsace's greatest domaines, such as Zind-Humbrecht and Domaine Weinbach.Importer: Weygandt-Metzler Importing, Unionville, PA.
