This 1949 Puligny Montrachet Village from Drouhin was an absolute delight, a bottle that belied its venerable age. The nose is astonishingly fresh with honeysuckle, dried lemon, grilled walnut and a slight adhesive scent. The palate is very complex and quite compelling with a gorgeous line of acidity that continues to impart freshness and tension. There are not overt flavors, but this is instead more about the texture and persistence. You almost forget that it is a "mere" village cru.
