The 2008 Roseira, the first vintage of this bottling intended to present a more modern side of Douro, is not yet in the USA. It is a blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, aged for three months in tank and 15 months in used French oak barrels. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Elegantly constructed, this has a fresh feel with some pop on the finish, but the one downside is the rather obvious new oak component. Owner Jo?o Roseira told me that he believes it will improve--and it may, although I'm less positive--but at the moment that means you cellar this one for another couple of years while drinking some of the others. It is otherwise nicely balanced. Note: this runs around 18 Euros in Portugal.
