This extremely rare wine would have been made by Etienne's father. The 1966 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a vital and fresh strawberry bouquet, a touch of iron filings and chestnut, firmly into its secondary stage and yet brimming over with vigor. The palate is medium-bodied, lithe and supple in the mouth with beautiful balance. Like so many 1966s, this Grand Cru has aged with style and panache, just a touch of volatile acidity towards the finish but never losing its finesse and grace. It gently fans out towards the convincing finish that leaves you desperate for another sip of this nectar. Superb. Tasted November 2016.
