The 2008 Beaune Marconnets emerges from the glass with dark cherries, plums, leather and sweet spices. It presents more body and textural richness than the Greves, with darker fruit tones and less florality. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume begins to emerge, hinting at what is to come in the future. Deeply spiced, minty notes wrap around the finish. This, too, needs to be cellared for a few more years. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.
I was quite taken with the handful of 2008 reds I tasted from Remoissenet. The estate likes to pick late and use a fair amount of new oak, an approach that worked beautifully in this vintage, which I prefer to 2009 based on what I have tasted thus far. The 2008s capture the house’s search for textural richness and depth while remaining expressive to their respective sites.
