The 2010 Batard-Montrachet is rich, powerful and very tightly wound. Vibrant mineral notes are woven into the intense, layered fruit but they are nearly buried by the wine’s intensity. Ideally, the 2010 needs another couple of years to fully come together. Today it is very much closed in on itself. Anticipated maturity: 2014+.
Vincent Morey began harvesting on September 17th. All of the 2010s were bottled before the 2011 harvest. Morey told me he seeks to maintain freshness in his wines, and therefore sees nothing to gain from longer elevage. I also tasted a handful of highly attractive 2011s from barrel.
