The 2002 Montrachet was re-tasted in early February, 2004 immediately after bottling. It reveals a highly expressive nose of sap-laden rocks, spices, and ginger. On the palate, this medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured effort is seamless, rich, broad, and ample. Loads of spices, hazelnuts, cloves, pears, and honeyed minerals can be discerned in its complex, harmonious character. Its pure, lush personality and impressively bold flavors linger throughout its long, suave finish. Given that this wine had recently been subjected to filtration and the shock of being bottled, I have every confidence in the world that it will gain even more power, flesh, and length over the next 2-3 years. Projected maturity: 2008-2020.
