The 2004 Ciliegiolo San Lorenzo is elegant, sweet and refined, with notable clarity in its well-articulated aromas and flavors. The San Lorenzo spent 24 months in French oak, but you would hardly know it judging by the way the dark red fruit and oak are beautifully woven into the wine’s fabric. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019.
Sassotondo is another of the small properties making terrific wines under the direction of consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli. In particular, I consider the estate’s Ciliegiolo San Lorenzo a reference-point wine for this variety.
