Similar in style to the 1989, the 1990 Barbaresco is deeper-colored, richer and more expansive on the palate, as well as more alcoholic. It merits drinking over the next 10-12 years. Cortese's sexy, dramatic, flashy style of Barbaresco is well-displayed in both the 1989 and 1990 vintages. Both are forward, evolved wines, with super bouquets of cherries, herbs, cedar, and underbrush. These are gorgeously flattering, rich Barbarescos for consumers or restaurants that lack the patience to wait for some of the more muscular, tannic wines from these two vintages to reach maturity.
