The 2007 Montefalco Sagrantino Chiusa di Pannone pours into the glass with thick, black extraction. Fruit is sourced from the highest vineyard at the estate, at more than 400 meters above sea level. That elevation helps establish elegance here, but otherwise you simply can’t miss the fact that is one seriously big wine. It shows oversized aromas of blackberry jam, Middle Eastern bazaar, oozing black tar, black twisted licorice candy and toasted cedar. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.
