Coudoulet remains best known for its red wine. It possesses a striking similarity to Beaucastel. The 1995 Coudoulet Cotes du Rhone is, as they say in the wine trade, "packed and stacked." The wine exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, and a superb nose of smoky herbs, barbecue spices, and sweet, rich black-cherry jam. Full-bodied, dense, and thick, with outstanding concentration, low acidity, and fine purity, this is a gorgeously rich Coudoulet that should drink well for a decade. The 1994 and 1995 are two of the finest examples of Coudoulet since the great 1989 and 1985.
This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
Coudoulet de Beaucastel has always been one of the finest Cotes du Rhone wines, and the estate's producers, Francois and Jean-Pierre Perrin, have continued to up-grade the quality.
