The 2000 Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate is one of the most backward wines of the year. Layers of dark plums, cherries and menthol flow from this vibrant Barolo. The aromas and flavors build beautifully to the intense, focused finish. This is a dazzling effort from Elio Grasso. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. Elio Grasso is among the growers who captured the essence of 2000. Grasso remains one of the most overlooked, under the radar producers in Piedmont. I buy the wines every year, but never seem to be able to keep my hands off the bottles. The estate’s 2000 are marvelous.

Wonderful aromas of pressed flowers and blackberries with hints of cinnamon. Full-bodied, in a jammy, big, fruity style and a long, caressing finish. Chewy though. This shows splendid structure.
