The dark ruby-colored 2005 Juan Rojo spent eight months in French oak. It gives up attractive aromas of cedar, spice box, black cherry, and black raspberry. Ripe, spicy, and intensely flavored, this rich effort will evolve for another 3-4 years and drink well through 2020. It is an excellent value. Smoky, spicy oak, leathery red fruit. Good acid balance and supple tannins. Lacks density but has fine weight and depth.
