Beaurenard's 1995s possess more color, aromatics, flavor texture, and aging potential than the 1996s. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Boisrenard is one of the finest of the modern-styled, new oak-aged (20% is aged in new oak casks) Chateauneufs. It reveals an opaque purple color, and a tight but backward nose that reluctantly gives up scents of flowers, licorice, and toasty new oak. The wine is full-bodied, with plenty of grip, tannin, and concentration. It is a well-defined, rich, full-bodied Chateauneuf du Pape that could easily be mistaken for a grand cru red Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2015.
This 75-acre estate continues to be one of the leaders in Chateauneuf du Pape, offering both a cuvee classique and a luxury cuvee, the latter revealing evidence of exposure to new oak casks. There is also a round, generous Cotes du Rhone produced as well as a rustic Rasteau Cotes du Rhone-Villages.
