Elements of unrestrained wildness run through the 2005 Il Sole di Alessandro, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sole di Alessandro flows with tons of authority in its dark fruit. Despite its formidable concentration, the tannins are rather raw, while the bouquet is not as well-delineated as is typically the case here, both of which detract from the wine’s balance. If those elements come together, this could merit a higher score down the road, but today I am not optimistic that will happen. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Proprietor Alessandro Francois makes a wide range of wines, but the stars are his single-vineyard bottlings. This year, the wines are more variable than in the past, but to be fair, some of the less interesting bottles are from the challenging 2005 harvest.Importer (all wines except Cignale): Prestige Wine Imports, New York, NY; tel.
