The concentrated 1996 Hermitage Le Greal is a powerful Syrah exhibiting a saturated ruby/purple color, creme de cassis-like fruit, medium to full body, and good but not excessive acidity. Although not a powerhouse, relying more on finesse than muscle for its appeal, there is plenty of substance to this lovely wine. It should drink well now and over the next 15 years.
