The more oaky of all the reds I tasted was the 2011 Aloja Mare, a blend of 50% Garnacha, 30% Cari?ena and the rest Syrah from a diversity of vineyards across Montsant fermented separately in stainless steel and blended prior to the élevage in French and American oak barrels for one year. It's a typical dark and concentrated, generously-oaked red blend with plenty of aromas derived from the wood and a palate with abundant, fine-grained but dusty tannins. 6,000 bottles produced.
