The 2001 Dry Red Number 1 (a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot) reveals a dense ruby/purple-tinged color along with a firm nose of black fruits, damp earth, and dried herbs, sweet, intense, pure red and black fruit flavors, austere tannin, and a medium to full-bodied, deep palate. Deep purple-edged red. Delicately perfumed aromas of cassis, sweet plum and violet, with subtle oak notes of chocolate, cedar and vanilla. Supple and fine, but steeped in almost searingly intense blackcurrant and mulberry flavors of essence-like concentration. Sharply focused, perfectly integrated wine, with a spine of firm, powdery, slightly astringent tannins. Offers exceptional length and cellaring potential.
