The 1996 Pinot Bianco is richer and more full-bodied than the 1996 Chardonnay tasted alongside it. Butter, smoke, tar, licorice and ripe tropical fruit emerge from this generous, medium to full-bodied Pinot Bianco. There are few more rewarding wines than fine, aged whites, and the estate’s Pinot Bianco more than delivers the goods. The rich, oily finish recalls an aged white Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021. The most impressive wines I tasted this year from Alto Adige came from Cantina di Terlano. Simply put, these are reference point wines. I can’t imagine these wines not being represented in any serious cellar.Importer: Banville & Jones Wine Merchants, New York, NY; tel. (204) 294-4899
