Morey's best red is the dark ruby/purple colored Santenay Clos Rousseau. It offers a highly expressive nose of roasting spices and blueberries as well as a highly-structured and intense, silky-textured, full-bodied core of minerals, herbs, blackberries and red cherries. Projected maturity: 1999-2004.
Note: The price for this wine was not available because the domaine's US importer does not purchase it. The wine may, however, be available through other sources, particularly the gray market.
The bottling line was churning away when I visited this estate in January and many of the wines I tasted had been bottled but were not yet corked. Bernard Morey's reds offer excellent concentration, sweet fruit and dark colors.
