The 2013 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Tor Di Lupo is a memorable and fascinating wine, although it does wear a heavy mantel of oak that still needs time to integrate. It opens to a saturated, dark color and rich aromas of black cherry, blackberry preserves, toasted spice, sweet cinnamon, juniper berry and cured meat. The effect is velvety and deeply enriched. The oak may never fully integrate but a year or two of bottle aging should bring more balance to the wine.
